Paolo Sarpi, Istoria del Concilio tridentino: a cura di Corrado Vivanti, Turijn: Giulio Einaudi, 2011, 1486 p.
Oudste studie over het concilie, die tot in de twintigste eeuw een belangrijke bron van kennis over het concilie was. Het boek beschrijft het concilie als een mislukking: de hervormingen gingen niet ver genoeg en de macht van de paus was niet ingeperkt.
Vanwege deze kritische houding gaf de auteur het boek onder het pseudoniem Pietro Soave Polano. Het verscheen in 1619 in Londen.
Een Engelse vertaling uit 1676 is beschikbaar als internet-bron via wetenschappelijke bibliotheken: The history of the Council of Trent: containing eight books in which besides the ordinary acts of the Council are declared many notable occurrences which happened in Christendom during the space of forty years and more: and particularly the practices of the Court of Rome, to hinder the Reformation of their errours and to maintain their greatness.
